The 11th event dedicated to the International Day for Monuments and the Day of the Old Bosnian Town of Dubrovnik.
The Old Bosnian Town Dubrovnik Foundation, in cooperation with the Public Institution Sarajevo Museum and with the support of the Ilijaš Municipality, organized the final activities of its 11th event dedicated to the International Day of Monuments and the Day of the Old Bosnian Town Dubrovnik.
On this occasion, on October 29, 2025, a rich program was held at the Brusa Bezistan on the theme 'The Advantages of the Old Bosnian Town Dubrovnik’s Location for the Development of Sustainable Tourism.' The program included exhibitions on the national monuments of the Old Bosnian Town Dubrovnik (Ilijaš) and the princely necropolis of Kopošići stećci, as well as presentations, video screenings, and the promotion of the Virtual Reality Interpretive Center as a modern way of presenting cultural and historical heritage.
At the opening of the event, Dr. Maja Pličanić, President of the National Committee of ICOMOS in Bosnia and Herzegovina, addressed the attendees on behalf of the co-organizers, as well as Dr. Nusret Drešković, coordinator of the international project 'Stećci – Europe Horizon.'
In the presentation part of the program, the site’s values and its suitability for various forms of tourist visits were discussed by the Foundation’s executive staff (and members of the National Committee of ICOMOS in BiH) Perica Mijatović, Dr. Edin Bujak, and M.A. Zlatan Filipović, as well as Dr. Adis Fejzić, M.A. Azra Šarenkapa Bečević, and Edina Kamenica. In addition to highlighting the site’s infrastructural development and the historical, cultural, and artistic values of the stećci from the Kopošići necropolis, the event featured a screening of a documentary film commemorating the tenth anniversary of the discovery of the nobleman’s brocade cloak with gold embroidery (now housed in the National Museum), as well as the promotion of a souvenir – a 3D print of the stećak of the Grand Bosnian Prince, Prince Batić Mirković, with its epitaph. The Virtual Reality Interpretive Center, led by Zlatan Filipović, was also presented, and there was discussion of the 'Europe Horizon – Stećci' project, which is partially carried out at the Kopošići necropolis.
As part of the entertainment program, there were also talks about the noblewomen of Kopošići, and the music and dance group operating within the Foundation performed several musical pieces and medieval dances, with the support of the Sarajevo National Theatre.
The exhibition and the VR Center, which were open for all interested visitors at the Brusa Bezistan from October 29 to November 8, 2025, represent an important step toward finally integrating the unique destinations of the Old Bosnian Town Dubrovnik and the Kopošići necropolis into the educational and tourist offerings of Sarajevo and its surroundings.
