International Day for Monuments and Sites

What does April 18 represent? Since 1982, April 18 has been observed as International Day for Monuments and Sites (IDMS)

This date represents an opportunity for all ICOMOS committees, as well as the entire international ICOMOS network, to jointly promote, advocate for, and celebrate cultural heritage. The initiative was launched within ICOMOS and was later endorsed by UNESCO, giving April 18 global significance. This day provides an opportunity for professionals, institutions, and heritage enthusiasts to come together around a common goal – the preservation and responsible management of cultural heritage.

On the occasion of the International Day for Monuments and Sites, numerous field, educational, and online activities are organized worldwide, aiming to raise awareness about the value of cultural heritage, its protection, and its significance for contemporary society.
