The Founding Assembly of ICOMOS was held. The Statute was adopted, and the first governing bodies of the organization were elected.
ICOMOS in Yugoslavia – the Key Role of BiH

National ICOMOS structures were established in Yugoslavia. Among the prominent members was Šefik Bešlagić, as a member of the Presidium, giving Bosnia and Herzegovina an important role in the early stages of activity. - 27. october 1972 | Sarajevo

The Dissolution of the SFRY and the Wartime Interruption

At the time of the dissolution of the SFRY, the headquarters of the National Committee of ICOMOS was located in Zagreb. The institutional continuity of joint activities was interrupted. - 1992–1995 | Bosnia and Herzegovina (Wartime Period)
Due to the war, there was no possibility for the formal operation of the National Committee of ICOMOS in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The activities of experts were focused on the urgent protection
of endangered cultural heritage.
Restoration and Contemporary Period – NK ICOMOS BiH

The ICOMOS Executive Committee accepted and ratified the National Committee of ICOMOS in Bosnia and Herzegovina, thereby reintegrating BiH into full membership of the international organization. - January 9, 2009 | Sarajevo
The Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina registered the Association “National Committee ICOMOS in Bosnia and Herzegovina” in Book I of the Register, under number 771. - 2009 – Present | Bosnia and Herzegovina
The National Committee of ICOMOS in Bosnia and Herzegovina operates as an independent, registered professional organization with the freedom to operate throughout the entire territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, actively participating in international programs, professional discussions, and the protection of architectural heritage.
