Appeal – Hotel Internacional in Zenica
The ICOMOS National Committee in Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an appeal for the preservation and responsible management of architectural heritage, in connection with planned interventions at the Hotel Internacional in Zenica.
Hotel Internacional, the work of architect Slobodan Jovandić – a recipient of the Borba Award for Architecture – is an exceptionally significant example of modernist heritage in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its architecture reflects a period of intense urban and social development in Zenica and represents an integral part of the city’s identity.
The ICOMOS National Committee in BiH considers it essential that the planned works focus on:
- preserving the architectural integrity and original expression of the building,
- preventing any kind of additions or interventions that could lead to the loss of its distinctive character,
- carrying out the restoration process in accordance with applicable urban planning regulations and international guidelines for the protection of modernist heritage.
Hotel Internacional in Zenica will be considered in the upcoming period as part of the ICOMOS Heritage Alert action.
